English in Hand is run by me, Doug Fraser. This page explains, in plain English, what information this site collects and what I do with it. The short version: I collect as little as possible, I never sell it, and you can ask me to delete it at any time.
What I collect
When you sign up for the free phrasebook or my weekly lessons, I collect your email address. That’s it — I don’t ask for your name, your location, or anything else.
If you leave a comment on a blog post, the site collects the name, email address, and website you type in, along with the comment itself. Your name and comment are shown publicly; your email address is not.
Like almost every website, my hosting provider keeps standard server logs (things like IP addresses and browser type) for security and troubleshooting.
How your email address is used
I use it to send you the phrasebook you asked for and roughly one short lesson a week. I don’t sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone.
My email list is managed by MailerLite, the service that stores subscriber addresses and sends the emails on my behalf. Signups are double opt-in, which means you have to confirm your address before you’re added to the list.
Every email I send includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and you’re off the list — no hard feelings, and no follow-up emails asking why.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies: WordPress may set one if you leave a comment (so you don’t have to retype your details next time), and the MailerLite signup form uses cookies to work properly and remember whether you’ve already subscribed. There is no advertising or tracking-for-ads on this site.
Your rights
You can ask me what information I have about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it entirely. Email me at doug@englishinhand.com and I’ll sort it out, usually within a few days.
Children
This site is written for adult English learners. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If I change how the site handles your information, I’ll update this page and the date below.
